Weaving and
Printed Fabrics

Gold mined from the spectacular limestone hills glitters in the Malay kain songket. Depictions of spirits and fabulous animals decorate the Iban pua kumbu. Natural vegetable dyes add exotic hues to hand-dyed batiks. These are just some of the fabulous fabrics found in Sarawak.
The extraordinary beauty of the rainforest is woven into Sarawak’s exotic textiles. Their inimitable patterns and intense colours make them a fashion designer’s dream.

Dreams and ancient animist beliefs inspire the magnificent motifs. Nature is re-interpreted by the weaver. The patterns that emerge are a fusion of the real and surreal. And each weave is distinctive of its maker's art.
