The Sarawak
Craft Council (SCC) serves as a coordinating
body between the various government agencies involved in handicraft
development in Sarawak. In its quest for a truly progressive handicraft
industry, SCC is entrusted with the following tasks:
( 1 ) Propose and formulate policies on the
development of the handicraft industry for consideration and approval
of the State Government.
( 2 ) Ensure sustainability and continued growth of the industry
by formulating guidelines for research and development programmes,
human resource development, marketing and promotional activities
for handicrafts.
( 3 ) Coordinate and monitor the activities of the different agencies
in the industry to avoid duplication and overlapping of the functions
and roles.
( 4 ) Expand the scope of the craft skills training to incorporate
basic entrepreneurial skills.
( 5 ) Introduce suitable technology to achieve better quality and
higher productivity.
( 6 ) Determine the appropriate marketing strategy for the products.
